Romans
(20km)

Located 25 minute drive from the campsite, Romans and its sister town Bourg-de-Peage are located in the north-east of the Valence area, between the Drôme des Collines and the Vercors Mountains.

Romans is also easily accessible by bike via the cycling path Vallée de l'Isère, which crosses the Drôme for 42 km from Châteauneuf sur Isère to Saint Nazaire en Royans, at the entrance of the Vercors. In addition to the lanes along the Isère, the three bridges built between Châteauneuf sur Isère and Granges Beaumont, Bourg de Peage and Romans and Eymeux and Saint-Paul-Les-Romans, allow you to cross and circulate the Isère from one shore to another to discover wild landscapes and the diversity of this territory.

The city is known for its interesting historical and cultural heritage; you can discover the old town from the Jacquemart Tower -built in the 12th century and measuring 37 meters high- to the docks of the Isère, going through Jacquemart street and its shops, as well as through the Place Maurice Faure, animated on Sunday morning by a picturesque market gathering many local producers. You will finally arrive on the docks of Isère, at the bottom of the Collegiate Saint Bernard - of Roman and Gothic style-, and where concerts and temporary exhibitions are held several times a year.

The Shoe Museum traces the development of the footwear and leather industry notably through the factories Charles Jourdan and Robert Clergerie, which made the city world famous in the 19th century.

For shopaholics, you can surely find your happiness through the many shops in the city centre and at Marques Avenue (an outlet centre with major brands at discount prices).

Finally, Romans is also a city renowned for its local specialties including Pogne (a shaped crown brioche made with flour, eggs and butter and scented with orange blossom) and Ravioles.  You can find the Museum of Pogne Pascalis and Ravioles factories and boutiques, such as the Saint-Jean and the Mother Maury. The city has very good restaurants where you can taste these specialties.
