Le Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval
Hauterives (40km)

Located in Hauterives, Le Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval was classified as a historical monument in 1969 by André Malraux. A global reference in the world of outsider art, Le Palais is the work of former postman Ferdinand Cheval who spent 33 years of his life building this imaginary palace from stones picked up while delivering mail. In the heart of a flourishing garden, he imagined an uninhabitable palace, populated by an incredible plethora of animals - octopus, deer, crocodiles, elephants, pelicans, bears, bird, etc. but also giants, fairies, mythological characters, waterfalls and architectural structures from all over the world. An architectural work that belongs nowhere and everywhere at the same time.
